Dream Desserts & Wedding Cakes FAQ
When should I book my wedding order?
It is always best to order you're order as far in advance as possible as weekends tend to book up fast. We suggest you book a minimum of 3 to 6 months in advance of your date as soon as possible (peak months are usually between May -- Oct). If time is not on your side, the Dessert Lady will be happy to do everything possible to work within your time frame.
Can I hold the date?
Yes, you can hold the date. You will need to fill out a contract and put down a 50% deposit, based on your order (non-refundable). The cake design, flavours and details must be finalized in FULL 1 month prior to your wedding date and the remaining balance is due 2 weeks from your wedding date.
What is the pricing for your cakes? / How much will my cake cost?
The overall price is based on the flavour of cake, number of tiers, icing used, how much detail work will go into the cake design, and cake size (number of servings).
Where and when are your 20 MINUTE FREE consultations held?
All of our meetings are by appointment only and are held at our shop at 12 Cumberland Street in Toronto.
Can I bring in a picture of a wedding cake I saw in a magazine that I like?
Absolutely! Some of our best designs were adapted from pictures or magazine clippings couples gave us. We will be glad to let you know to what extent we could replicate your request and an estimate of the additional cost for that particular design. We keep up with the latest trends in cake design. We have also attended the bridal show for several years in a row.
Do I want Fondant?
Fondant can do things that icing can't! Fondant will give you a perfectly smooth look that icing won't so if this is the look you are going for, I would say fondant would work for you. Fondant is also good for cakes that are on display as it is less affected by its environment than icing. The cost associated with fondant accounts for the fondant itself and the time involved when working with it.
What happens during FREE 20 MINUTE consultation?
You will be sampling small portions during our meeting to determine what your final cake or cupcake flavor will be for your design. For example, you might try our one of our famous Red Velvet cupcakes or our delicious Strawberry Shortcake. Prior to your appointment we highly recommend bringing in a picture(s) of the designs you like for your cake. Also, knowing how many tiers you would like your cake to be as well as the flavours you're interested in will be of great help to our team. Try and have your questions ready for our team as we will be delighted to serve you.
Are there different prices for any of the cake flavors?
Yes, all of the cupcake/ cake flavors are priced differently (depending on flavour and ingredients).
